Electric Picnic 2021 update from boss as many fear concerts won't go ahead

Festival organisers expect Electric Picnic to be back in "full force" in 2021 after this years cancellation.

The Stradbally music festival had to be shelved for 2020 due to the coronavirus outbreak with fears amongst many that the 2021 event would succumb to the same fate.

But festival organisers Festival Republic who are over much of Europe's big concerts believe that 2021 will see a welcome return for such events.

Melvin Benn, MD of Festival Republic, said that even without a vaccine they are optimistic about the festivals chances.

Mr Benn in told IQ Magazine : “I don’t think we could have imagined the unity the scientific community has showed in working together to find a vaccine against this disease.

"I’m already getting companies contacting me and offering tests that are incredibly reliable, and can be done in a short amount of time.

“At the moment [in July] they’re too expensive – but given that they didn’t even exist in March, I assure you that by the time April or May comes around next year, there’ll be a testing company on every street corner and it will be relatively inexpensive."

The event boss said that even without a vaccine this potential for a test and trace system puts festivals in a "good position".
