Electric Ireland NI Women’s Challenge Cup semi-final draw confirmed

The Electric Ireland NI Women’s Challenge Cup semi-final draw has been confirmed.

Four teams will be battling it out for a place in the final on Friday, October 15 at the National Football Stadium at Windsor Park.

Cup holders Glentoran Women will take on Cliftonville Ladies while Sion Swifts play Crusaders Strikers.

The games will be played on August 27 with venues to be confirmed

In the quarters, the Glens turned over Carnmoney 7-0 and Cliftonville slipped past Lisburn Rangers in a 4-2 thriller.

Sion Swifts hit Mid Ulster Ladies for seven and Crusaders beat St James' Swifts 4-0 in a dominating display.

All eyes will be on the Glens and Reds tie as these tides are neck and neck at the top of the league table with Glentoran ahead by a point but Cliftonville have the leverage with two games in hand.

Glentoran Women are the most successful side in the competition, having won it eight times, with Linfield Ladies the next most successful with three victories.

Their most recent cup win came in 2019 when an early strike from Emma McMaster gave them a 1-0 win over Linfield Ladies in the decider at the National Football Stadium at Windsor Park.

The Irish Football Association’s Women’s Challenge Cup Committee reluctantly cancelled the 2020 edition of the competition.
