Electric Ireland announces 13.5% price increase

Electricity firm Electric Ireland has announced a 13.5% price increase.

The energy company blamed rising wholesale energy costs, adding that the “average residential electricity bill in Northern Ireland” will go up from November 1.

They say it will equate to an increase of approximately £1.67 per week on the average residential electricity bill.

Clare McAllister, Residential Manager NI, Electric Ireland added: “It is with great reluctance that we have to increase our prices at this time but, as has been well documented, global wholesale prices continue to rise, leaving us with no option.

“We would assure our customers that we will continue to keep costs as low as we can passing on savings when it becomes possible to do so. We understand that some customers may face challenges and would encourage anyone who is having trouble paying bills to contact us and we will support them with an affordable payment plan over the coming months.”

Electric Ireland has around 99,000 customers in Northern Ireland. The news comes in the wake of a raft of gas companies in Northern Ireland announcing major price hikes.
