Electric Fields music festival in Glasgow is cancelled

A high-profile Scottish music festival has been cancelled less than two months after it announced a move from southern Scotland to Glasgow.

The Electric Fields festival will not now go ahead despite its planned switch from Drumlanrig Castle in Dumfries & Galloway to the SWG3 venue in Finnieston, according to BBC Scotland reports.

Metronomy, The Vaccines and Frank Turner were among the acts due to perform in Glasgow between 4 and 6 July. But SWG3 has confirmed the event would not now go ahead.

The confirmation comes after people trying to buy tickets on the Electric Fields website were informed: "This show has been cancelled."

It included a Manchester-based number for the festival's ticketing company, Ticketline, for fans seeking a refund.

BBC Scotland said Electric Fields festival organisers are yet to comment on the event's cancellation.

Festival-goers expressed disappointment when it was announced in April that the event was to change from a camping experience in southern Scotland to a city venue due to rising costs and logistical and transport challenges. It is thought many took up the organiser’s offer of a refund at that point. The festival had been running since 2014.

Last year’s festival generated around £1.5 million for the local economy in southern Scotland. More than 8,000 watched the Friday night headliner - Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds – last year in an attendance record for the festival.
