Electric Boogaloo: The Wild, Untold Story of Cannon Films review – trashy fun

Sylvester Stallone in Over the Top

The Cannon group may have produced prodigious amounts of B-movie dreck in their time, but this entertainingly goodhearted documentary finds time to allow a teary Franco Zeffirelli to proclaim that Menahem Golan and Yoram Globus were the best producers he ever worked for! Retelling the story of these Israeli rebels from the glory days of Lemon Popsicle to the disaster of Superman IV: The Quest for Peace, Not Quite Hollywood director Mark Hartley’s frenetically edited tribute offers a cornucopia of spectacularly trashy clips that will leave you laughing, screaming and squirming – sometimes all at once. Interviewees recall the company’s highs and lows in frank fashion, but true to form Golan and Globus declined to participate and then beat Hartley to the punch with rival doc The Go-Go Boys.
