With the Scottish Parliament Election on Thursday May 6 drawing ever nearer, eligible voters in West Lothian are urged to make sure everything is in place to allow them to cast their vote.
Voters have a range of options for casting their ballot – in person, by post or by appointing someone they trust to vote in their place, known as a proxy vote.
For those who choose to vote in person the registration deadline is midnight on Monday 19 April. Registration can be completed online - http://www.gov.uk/register-to-vote
The deadline for requesting or changing a postal vote is earlier than usual, at 5 pm on 6 April 2021.
Applications for a proxy vote (someone voting for you, for example due to disability or work commitments) must be made before 5 pm on 27 April 2021.
These applications must be made to the Electoral Registration Officer at Lothian Valuation Joint Board website at www.lothian-vjb.gov.uk or by sendin complete applications to 17A South Gyle Crescent, Edinburgh EH12 9FL or calling 0131 344 2500.
Arrangements will be in place to help ensure polling stations meet strict health and safety standards for those who wish to vote in person.
Risk assessments will be completed to determine what measures need to be in place at polling stations.
All measures will be in accordance with the most up to date public health guidance and in keeping with any national or local Covid-19 restrictions that are in force on the day of the election.
