Election Results 2019: Edinburgh reacts to news of a significant Tory majority

Edinburgh has this morning woken up to news that the Tories have won a significant majority at Westminster in the 2019 General Election.

As things stand the Conservatives have won 363 seats, and counting, across the UK. At the time of writing two constituencies are yet to declare.

Labour have just crept over the 200 mark with Jeremy Corbyn under severe pressure after the party's worst election result in more than 80 years.

Across Scotland the result is in and the SNP have made huge strides, winning 48 of 59 seats, including two gains from Labour in the Lothians.

Throughout the night we at Edinburgh Live have been as they come in.

In the five constituencies in the Edinburgh area there were three wins for the SNP, one Labour and one Lib Dem.

Christine Jardine held Edinburgh West for the Lib Dems, Ian Murray held on to Edinburgh South for Labour, but had some strong words to say about Jeremy Corbyn, Joanna Cherry held Edinburgh South West for the SNP while Tommy Sheppard won Edinburgh East for the SNP and Deidre Brock won Edinburgh North and East.

But what to the people of Edinburgh make of the full result – and that Tory majority at Westminster? We rounded up some Tweets from those who've been sharing their thoughts on the vote, and it's fair to say people are feeling pretty fed up.

'Genuinely baffled by people'

We're polls apart

'Proud but devastated'

Feeling seriously fed up

Many people will likely be feeling this way today

'The last glimmer of hope'

'I just don't get it'

It's Friday the 13th...
