VIJAYAWADA: Election Commission has imposed a ban on transfer of officials involved in preparation of electoral rolls in Andhra Pradesh till the completion of revision of rolls.

Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Mukesh Kumar Meena in a government order(GO) issued on Friday said that officials including district collectors, joint collectors, district revenue officers, municipal commissioners, electoral registration officers and assistant registration officers should not be disturbed from their existing places.

He said that no transfers should take place without permission from the Election Commission of India (ECI) from October, 27 to January, 5, 2024.

"If at all the transfer of any official involved in the election duties particularly ROs and AROs is required, it should be done through CEO, AP and with the concurrence of EC," said Meena.

The ban on transfers is applicable to all the Tehsildars, VROs, VRAs and ward secretariat staffers.

He had also asked the authorities to fill all the vacancies particularly in revenue, panchayat raj and municipal administration immediately to handle the preparation of electoral rolls.

He directed the district collectors to submit a detailed report stating that all the posts that have been designated to the electoral duties are filled and no vacancies are left out. He said that no post should be left vacant by October 10.

He said that all the officials engaged in the preparation of electoral rolls are deemed to be working on deputation with the EC and hence EC’s prior permission is required for their transfers. He said that the draft electoral rolls will be published on October 27 and final lists will be published on January, 5.
