Eleanor Ryan-Doyle and Emily Whelan the latest to join Birmingham Women's Irish contingent

Birmingham City have brought their contingent to five Irish women following the signing of Eleanor Ryan-Doyle and Emily Whelan.

Ryan-Doyle and Whelan have signed one-year deals after leaving Peamount United and Shelbourne respectively, and join Louise Quinn, Marie Hourihan and Jamie Finn at St Andrew's.

Both are in contention to play in tomorrow's Barclays FA Women’s Super League season opener against Tottenham.

It's a blow to Peamount to lose Ryan-Doyle, the WNL's top scorer this season and who has been at the club since she was eight, as they chase Shels at the summit. Peamount also face Treaty United in the FAI Cup on Sunday.

“I'm excited to start my professional career at Blues and excited to see where it will take me and how I will progress with my football," said Ryan-Doyle, whose family are stepped in the Greenogue club.

Whelan, an international of three years standing although still only 19, has been very influential for Shels.

“I am really excited for the upcoming season and I will do my best to help the team," said Whelan. "I will do everything I can to help us get to where we want to be.

"It's a big step up but I am willing to work hard and give it everything I've got."
