Police have launched a murder investigation after a man died in Newcastle city centre.
Officers received a report that a 52-year-old man had been assaulted outside the Greggs near Old Eldon Square on Wednesday evening.
The man was taken to hospital where he later died from his injuries.
Shoppers and employees were evacuated from Eldon Square Shopping Centre as police carried out their investigations.

Police received a report at around 6pm that a man, 52, had been assaulted and sustained injuries consistent with a stabbing.
Emergency services were called and the man was taken to hospital, where he later died.

The incident occurred on the ground floor of the shopping centre near the bus station.

Police have arrested six males on suspicion of murder.
What has the police said?
Detectives are continuing enquiries to establish the circumstances surrounding the assault and are now appealing for witnesses.
Detective Superintendent John Bent, of Northumbria Police, said: “First and foremost our thoughts are with the family and friends of the man who has sadly lost his life.
“We’re appealing for anyone who may have information, or who may have witnessed the incident to get in touch with us as any information could be vital.
“Enquiries are ongoing and I want to reassure the public that officers will be carrying out further enquiries and conducting patrols in the area so if you have any concerns please speak to officers."
What has the ambulance service said?
A North East Ambulance Service spokesman said: “We were called out at 6.17pm to an area near the bus station at Eldon Square to treat a patient who appeared to have been assaulted.
“We dispatched two ambulances and one Hazardous Area Response Team.
“We transported one patient to the Royal Victoria Infirmary.”
Is the area still closed?
On Thursday morning Old Eldon Square remains cordoned off, along with an area at the junction between Percy Street and Blackett Street outside the Next store.
