Elderly women hit by car and killed while out for a walk

Two elderly women were knocked down and killed whilst out for a walk in Birkdale.

Emergency services were called to Lulworth Road at around 4.35pm on Tuesday, November 30 following reports of a crash.

Once at the scene officers found two elderly women, aged in their 70s and 80s had been hit by a white Audi A3 on the road.

The elderly women were rushed to hospital by ambulance but died a short while later. Their next of kin have been informed.

The driver stopped at the scene and is assisting police with enquiries.

Road closures remain in place on Lulworth Road and motorists are advised to seek alternative routes.

Enquiries are ongoing and anyone with any information is urged to contact police.

Sergeant Mat Shaw said: “An investigation has been launched into this tragic incident and we are keen to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the collision.

“Similarly, if you were driving in the Lulworth Road area at the time and have any dashcam footage, please review it and get in touch if you see anything. Information you hold could be vital our enquiries.”
