Elderly women found dead under snow-covered car after blizzards in Leeds

A 75-year-old woman has been found dead in a snow-covered street following blizzards in Leeds.

West Yorkshire Police said the woman’s body was discovered lying partially under a car in Farsley, a suburb six miles west of the city centre.

Police were called to Well Street at 6.11am on Thursday.

Detective Inspector James Entwistle, said: “We are currently carrying out enquiries into the circumstances, but at this stage there is nothing to suggest her death is suspicious.

“We have established the woman’s identity and are in contact with her family.

“We would like to hear from anyone who saw her in the area at any time prior to her being found this morning. She may have appeared confused.”

The woman is believed to have lived close to where she was found. Police have cordoned off the area, erected a forensics tent, and have been seen entering a nearby block of flats.

Heavy snow fell on Leeds, as well as much of the north of England, on Thursday.

A Met Office amber warning, meaning frequent and heavy snow showers are expected, is in place under 10am on Friday.
