Elderly woman taken to the RVI after being hit by a car on Kenton Lane

An elderly woman has been taken to hospital after being hit by a car in Newcastle.

The woman, whose age is not known, was knocked over on Kenton Lane shortly after 10.30am on Friday morning.

Emergency services attended and the road was closed between The Ridge Way and Purley Gardens while they dealt with the collision.

The road was reopened by around 12.30pm and the woman was taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary.

The extent of her injuries is not known.

A spokeswoman for the North East Ambulance Service said: “We were called at 10.35am to reports of a road traffic collision involving a vehicle and pedestrian.

“We sent three resources and have taken an elderly female patient to the RVI.”

A Northumbria Police spokesman said: "At 10.42am today [Friday], police received a report that a female pedestrian had been in collision with a car on Kenton Lane, Newcastle.

"Emergency services are at the scene. The road is currently closed in both directions and motorists are advised to avoid the area."
