Elderly woman suffers minor injuries after car overturns into creek in Adelaide Hills

An elderly woman has escaped with only minor injuries after her car came to rest in a creek in the Adelaide Hills early this morning.

Police said the Mercedes Benz sedan left the road and landed on its roof in Aldgate Creek, south-east of Adelaide.

The incident has prompted police to issue a warning about driving to the conditions.

"Local patrols warn rain is still falling steadily in the area and urge motorists to take care on the roads," police said.

The 70-year-old woman was the only occupant of the car and managed to free herself before walking to a nearby house for help about 5:00am.

She was taken to the Royal Adelaide Hospital by ambulance for treatment of minor injuries.

SA Police senior constable Mick Abbott this morning said investigations were continuing into the crash.

"[We're] not exactly sure how long she'd been in the car and how long she'd been in the creek," he said.

"She was taken to the Royal Adelaide Hospital for treatment. Quite a lucky escape for her."

The car will be recovered from the creek this morning.

House 'burst into flames' in Elizabeth

In a separate incident, a man was rushed to hospital in a serious condition after a house fire at Elizabeth South overnight.

Police were called to a home on Bubner Street, in Adelaide's north, just after 3:00am after a triple-zero emergency call.

Police said on arrival they spoke to the male occupant of the house through a front window before the fire took hold.

"Within seconds of the interaction the front room of the house burst into flames, with thick black smoke coming from the front door," police said.

Police entered the property, located the unresponsive man and removed him from the house.

The 35-year-old was rushed to the Royal Adelaide Hospital in a serious condition.

The fire was brought under control by Metropolitan Fire Service (MFS) crews, but there was extensive damage to the house.
