A 72-year-old Arizona woman has been arrested after allegedly shooting her adult son during a domestic dispute reportedly sparked by a noisy video game.
Hazel Benson is accused of shooting her 38-year-old son in the stomach on the evening of May 17, FOX 10 reported. Mesa Police responded to the scene around 8:50 p.m. after Benson herself called 911 to report the incident.
According to police, Benson was frustrated that her son was playing video games too loudly, leading to an argument. The son reportedly left the house for a walk and returned later, at which point the conflict escalated. Benson allegedly tried to block him from reentering the home, and when he attempted to push past her with raised fists, she fired a gun, hitting him in the abdomen.
The victim was transported to a hospital and is currently in stable condition.
Benson has been charged with multiple felonies, including two counts of aggravated assault, one count of disorderly conduct with a deadly weapon, and one count of discharging a firearm within city limits, KTAR reported.
