An elderly woman has been shot dead at her care home in Walton-on-the-Naze, Essex police said.

The woman in her 80s was declared dead at the scene, at Delamer House in Naze Park Road, Walton-on-the-Naze, Essex Police confirmed.

A man, also a resident at the same address, has been arrested on suspicion of murder.

Officers were called to Delamer House just after 9:00 am following reports that a woman had been seriously injured.

The woman, believed to have been in her 80s, was found dead by officers and ambulance crews on arrival. Police said the woman is believed to have been shot.

A man was arrested on the scene on suspicion of murder and a scene guard has been put in place while forensic searches are undertaken at the premises.

Detectives from the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate are leading the murder enquiry.

DCI Simon Werrett, who is leading the investigation, said: “At this stage we are not looking for anyone else in connection with the investigation and our enquiries are ongoing.”

Anyone with any information is asked to contact Essex police on 101.
