Elderly woman robbed of her handbag in Glasgow's southside

Police are hunting a thief who robbed an elderly woman of her handbag in Glasgow's southside on Monday.

The woman, reported to be aged 80, was walking on Dixon Road when her bag was stolen at around 11:15am.

A spokeswoman for Police Scotland said: "We can confirm enquiries are ongoing after a woman was robbed of her handbag while walking on Dixon Road at around 11:15am on Monday morning."

Large police presence reported in Govanhill following shop theft

Southside Central councillor Soryia Siddique confirmed the incident on Twitter, adding that police told her "no violence was used during the theft" and that the woman was uninjured.

She said: "The community is rightly concerned about any theft, and especially when the elderly are involved.  Anyone with information that could help catch the perpetrator of this crime should contact Police Scotland.

"There needs to be a robust strategy around detection and prevention of crime."
