An elderly woman has been left with 'life-changing' injuries after being hit by a lorry in Bury.

Emergency services rushed to the scene of the crash on Walmersley Road just after 2.15pm yesterday (Wednesday). The woman - aged in her 80s - was taken to hospital.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police confirmed this morning that her injuries are 'life-changing'. They added that the lorry driver remained at the scene.

No arrests have been made and the driver is assisting police with enquiries. After the crash yesterday, Walmersley Road was cordoned off in both directions.

It was shut between Limefield Brow and Lowes Road. There were reports of an air ambulance also landing in the area following the crash.

Yesterday, a spokesperson for the North West Ambulance Service said: "We were called at 14:16 to a road traffic collision involving a lorry and a woman who had a head injury. We took the patient to hospital."

Anyone with information about the crash should contact police via gmp.police.uk or 101 quoting 1,799 of 28/09/22.
