An elderly woman is in critical condition after being struck by a car early this morning.

The 83-year-old was struck by the Land Rover Discovery in Glasgow North today at around 7.45am while crossing the carriageway on Northgate Road, near the junction with Acredyke Road.

She was rushed by ambulance to Glasgow Royal Infirmary where medical staff describe her condition as critical.

The female driver of the Land Rover Discovery was not injured.

Police Scotland are now appealing for information following the crash.

Sergeant Grant MacIver, Glasgow Road Policing Unit, said: "Our enquiries are continuing to establish the full circumstances of what happened and I am appealing to anyone who may have seen anything to get in touch.

“In particular, I'm keen to hear from anyone who may have dash-cam footage or who saw either the pedestrian or the car before the crash. Please call us on 101, quoting incident number 1044 of Saturday, 19th September 2020.”
