Elderly woman hit, killed by car in Phitsanulok

PHITSANULOK: An elderly woman was killed after being hit by a car on Phitsanulok-Lom Sak road in Wang Thong district of this lower northern province on Saturday night, police said.

Pol Maj Kitti Pungsisai, a Kaeng Sopha police investigator, said the accident occurred at about 7.30pm at kilometre marker 282 near Ban Pak Yang in tambon Kaeng Sopha.

He said while the woman, identified later as Niyom Thapthimthong, 64, a local villager in tambon Kaeng Sopha, was walking across the road she was hit by a Bangkok-registered Toyota car which was heading for Phitsanulok at a high speed. The woman was killed instantly.

The driver of the car was detained for further legal action.
