Elderly woman has handbag and cash taken in two Belfast burglaries

An investigation has been launched following two burglaries in close proximity to one another on Friday.

Police are appealing for information after they received a report of a burglary at a property on Knock Eden Park, East Belfast, at around 7.30pm on October 1.

It was reported that a male had entered the property of an elderly woman before making off with her handbag, keys and cash.

The man, who was described as around 5'4 and of slight build, made off in the direction of Cherryvale Park and was dressed in a grey and navy top with the hood up.

A number of hours later police also received a report that a property on Knock Eden Crescent had been "ransacked", sometime between 2pm and 10pm when the female occupant was out of the house.

Detective Sergeant Fairfield said: “At around 7.30pm, we received a report of a burglary at the home of an older person at Knock Eden Park.

“The occupant reported that a male entered the premises and made off with her handbag, which contained keys and cash.


“The man, who headed in the direction of Cherryvale Park, was described as being approximately 5’ 4”, of slight build, and was dressed in a grey and navy top with the hood up.

“Several hours later, at around 10.50pm, it was reported that a second incident had taken place at a house at Knock Eden Crescent.

“The female occupant reported that she had left the property at around 2.45pm, and returned shortly before 10pm to discover that a number of rooms had been ransacked.

“Nothing is believed to have been taken at this stage.

“Our enquiries into both of these incidents are ongoing, and we are investigating a possible link between them. We are particularly keen to hear from anyone who may have any CCTV footage, or any other information which could assist us.
