Elderly woman had purse and £300 stolen in broad daylight

An elderly woman had her purse stolen as she was out in broad daylight.

The woman was walking in Warrington town centre, at around 1pm on Tuesday, March 1, when the theft occurred. The purse had bank cards and cash in it. After the incident, cards in the purse were used to make withdrawals of around £300.

There were also other attempts to buy a train ticket at Warrington Bank Quay station. Police have now released a CCTV image of a woman they want to speak to. They believe the woman pictured will have information about the crime that can help their investigation.

Police constable Graham Davies, of Warrington Beat Team, said: "We have started following numerous enquiries and are appealing to the public for information. If you recognise the woman in the photo please do contact us.

"I would also like to appeal directly to the woman in the CCTV image to get in touch as she could have information that would assist with our investigation. Anyone with any information is asked to contact Cheshire Constabulary via https://www.cheshire.police.uk/tell-us or by contacting 101 quoting IML 1212889. Alternatively, information can be reported anonymously, via Crimestoppers, on 0800 555 111."
