Elderly woman fighting for her life after smashing into hedge on Ayrshire road

An elderly woman is fighting for her life after a horror smash in Ayrshire .

Emergency services were called to the B7034 near to the junction with the A77 after reports of a serious crash at around 9.50am on Tuesday morning.

A 76-year-old woman was driving west towards the A77, near Dalrymple, in a grey Toyota Yaris when it left the road and collided with a hedge.

She was then airlifted to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital where she remains in a critical condition.

Police officers closed the road for around five hours as they continue their investigations into the incident.

Sergeant Ian Thornton, of Ayrshire Road Policing, said: “Investigations are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding this road crash, and I am appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the collision, or observed the Toyota Yaris being driven on the B7034 to contact road policing officers.

“I would also urge anyone who was travelling on the B7034 near Dalrymple at the time of the collision and may have dashcam footage, to contact us.”

A spokesperson for Police Scotland added: “Information can be provided to Police Scotland by calling 101 and quoting incident number 0771 of December 3, 2019.”
