Elderly woman dragged by car in sickening attempted mugging in north Dublin

An elderly woman was dragged along the ground by a car in a sickening attempted mugging in north Dublin yesterday.

The pensioner, who is in her 70s, was taken to hospital with injuries to her arm and legs following the shocking incident.

Dublin Live reports the woman was approached by two men in a car on Baskin Lane in Cloghran, near Kinsealy on Monday.

The men asked the woman for directions before attempting to snatch her handbag when she approached the car.

The woman's bag was around her neck and she was dragged along the ground as the car attempted to drive off.

A local residents' association urged locals to be wary following the horrifying incident.

They said: "This isn’t an appeal for info, it’s a word of warning."

"We tell our children never to get close to a strange car, yet we probably don’t think twice about doing it ourselves.

"Be vigilant. Hope the awful people who did this are caught."

A garda spokesman said they are investigating the incident.

He said: "Gardai in Malahide are investigating a robbery that occurred on Baskin Lane, Cloghran, Dublin yesterday 16 of September.

"A female in her 70s was taken to hospital with injuries to her arm and legs as a result. No arrests have been made and investigations are ongoing."
