Elderly woman dies after being struck by train in Brisbane's east

It is understood the woman was crossing the tracks when the incident occurred.

A woman aged in her mid-70s has been struck and killed by a train in Brisbane's east.

It is understood the woman was crossing the tracks at a level crossing when the incident occurred at Lindum station about 5:00pm on Tuesday.

Forensic investigators attended the scene.

Police will interview witnesses and review CCTV footage to determine how the incident happened.

Queensland Rail services were suspended on the Cleveland line, and commuters were told to factor in at least an extra hour of travel time during the peak hour period.

A Queensland Rail spokesperson said in a statement it was "an absolutely tragic incident".

"Our thoughts go out to the woman's family," the spokesperson said.

"Queensland Rail will conduct a full investigation into this incident.

"Buses are in operation between Manly and Murarrie stations while emergency services continue on scene, with shuttle trains running between Manly and Cleveland."
