NAKHON RATCHASIMA: An elderly woman was seriously injured when she was crushed by a large iron gate she was opening on Sunday morning, police said.

Piak Singthong, 60, a neighbour, told police that while the woman, Jeeranan Paksirithanasak, 77, was opening the gate of her house in Tha Songkran village in tambon Naimuang of Phimai district, the sliding gate suddenly collapsed and crushed her.

The woman was knocked unconcious. She suffered a broken right arm and head wounds, leaving a pool of blood on the ground in front of the gate.

Mr Piak said he called her children to come out and they managed to lift the heavy gate off her.

She was rushed by a rescue unit to Phimai Hospital, and subsequently referred to Maharat Nakhon Ratchasima Hospital for treatment.
