An elderly woman was allegedly assaulted in her home in Co Cork on Saturday afternoon when she disturbed a potential burglary.
The woman in her 70s was allegedly assaulted by the two burglars when she disturbed them as they ransacked her home in Lowertown South, Schull.
Gardai are investigating the incident however no arrests have yet been made, Cork Beo reports.
Several items were taken from the property and the Southern Star reported that an ambulance crew treated the elderly woman for the injuries she sustained.

The paper also reported that the community has been left shocked by the incident as even though there have been break-ins in the past, this is the first case of an assault taking place during the incident.
