Elderly residents want to move out of apartments following brutal killing of pensioner

Elderly residents living in sheltered accommodation where an OAP was beaten to death want to move following a spate of murders.

Earlier this week a man was found dead at Robinson’s Court off Cork Street in Dublin’s south inner city.

Gardai believe the victim, Hong Kong native Kwok Ping Cheng, 76, may have inadvertently invited his killer into his home.

He was found lying in a pool of blood in his flat on Thursday. A motive has not been established and there was no sign of a break-in.

Detectives from Kevin Street Garda station launched a murder investigation after the discovery.

The victim, who was in his 70s, was well known in the area and described as “quiet but kind”.

This week’s murder was the third killing in 15 years in the complex which houses 30 people.

Locals were recently called to give evidence in the case of wheelchair-bound Anthony Rogers, 61, stabbed in the head and neck in 2016.

The trial was halted when the prosecution decided to drop the charges.

In 2006, Vincent Plunkett, 80, was found by home-help services with his throat slit in his flat in Robinson’s Court.

Gerard Brady 22, was charged with murder but died in custody before he could stand trial.
