Elderly patient racially abused nurse at Queen Margaret Hospital

The nurse was racially abused at Queen Margaret Hospital in Dunfermline.

A 73-YEAR-OLD patient twice racially abused a nursing staff member at the Queen Margaret Hospital.

Desmond Stenzil, currently of Queen Margaret Hospital, admitted his guilt but was not present when the case called at Dunfermline Sheriff Court.

He admitted that on July 4 last year, he acted in a racially aggravated manner to a female member of staff by shouting, swearing and repeatedly made derogatory remarks towards her.

Then between July 16 and 31 he repeated that offence towards the same woman.

Depute fiscal Azrah Yousaf said that, at 3.30am, the woman was eating with another patient when Stenzil got himself involved and said: "She’s laughing like a monkey.”

In the second incident he had told the nurse to “go back to Africa”.

The depute added: “She is of African descent and was upset.”

Sheriff William Gilchrist ordered Stenzil to pay £300 compensation.
