And Carla Bailey said: "How does a old man die weeks ago with no-one noticing? It's a sad world nowadays, neighbours used to look after each other that poor man."

Meanwhile Catherine Donoghue wrote: "This is utterly heartbreaking, that poor poor man. We all need to look out for our elderly neighbours. God bless him."

Ann Kennedy said: "This is so sad, but shows how little we know our neighbours these days.

"It’s important to get to know the people who live around us and look out for the more vulnerable members of the community."

Sandra Mary Allan  said: "How sad that society has failed him, god bless."

A force spokesman said: "John Samuel Gee, aged 81, was a resident of the Olga Road area of Sutton and was found deceased at home.

"His death is not being treated as suspicious.
