Elderly man who died in Tipperary crash named as tributes pour in

The elderly man who died in a crash on Thursday has been named as Liam Finn.

Shortly after 3pm on May 19, gardai and emergency services were alerted to a serious collision involving a lorry and a pedestrian on the M8 motorway near Burncourt, Cahir on the Tipperary/Limerick border.

Mr Finn, aged in his 60s, was seriously injured after he was struck by an articulated lorry.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

A notice on rip.ie read that he is "sadly missed by his heartbroken wife Martina (nee Lyons), daughters Aoife, Louise and Claire, sons Billy and Kevin, son in law Claude and partners Aisling, Rachel and Mikey, grandchildren Lauren, Darragh, Gavin and Cillian, sisters Bernie, Anne, Marion and Imelda, sisters in law, brothers in law, nieces, nephews, relatives, neighbours and a large circle of friends".

One person wrote in the book of condolences: "We are shocked and saddened to hear of the death of Liam. We offer our deepest sympathy to Martina and to Aoife, Louise, Claire, Billy and Kevin, also to Liam's sisters and extended family. Rest in peace Liam, so many memories never to be forgotten."

Another said: "So sad to hear of Liam's untimely passing, may his gentle soul rest in peace. We extend our sincere sympathy to Martina, Aoife, Louise, Claire, Billy, Kevin & grandchildren on the loss of a cherished husband, dad & grandad. To Bernie, Anne, Marian, Imelda & families condolences on the loss of your only brother, may you all be comforted at this sad time."

Another wrote: "To Martina and family, so sorry to hear about Liam's passing, if there was ever a gentleman Liam Finn was one. May he rest in peace."

Gardai at Cahir are appealing for witnesses. Those with camera footage from the M8 between J11 Cahir south and J12 Mitchelstown north at the time of the collision are asked to make it available to investigating gardai.
