An elderly man has tragically died after a single vehicle crash in Co Cork overnight.
The man, in his 70s, was killed after the car he was driving hit a ditch in the Taur area of Newmarket.
He was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash which happened at around 12.20am.
The body of the victim, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, has been removed to the morgue at Cork University Hospital.
Gardai are investigating the crash and have appealed to anyone who may have information to come forward.
A spokesman said: "The body has been removed to the City Morgue at Cork University Hospital for a post mortem.
"The scene of the incident remains closed for a forensic examination.
"Gardaí are appealing for anyone who may have information, particularly any road users who may have travelled through the area between 12:10am and 12:30am, to contact them at Mallow Garda Station on 022 31450 or the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111."
