Elderly man taken to hospital after colliding with tree in Burnhope

An elderly man was rushed to hospital with a suspected fractured arm after a nasty collision on Langley Lane this morning.

Just after 8am, the black Peugeot the man was driving left the road and collided with a tree resulting in one lane being blocked.

The man in his 80s was taken for treatment to the University Hospital of North Durham.

A number of other vehicles which were also involved sustained minor damage.

A spokesperson for Durham Constabulary said:

'Shortly before 8.10am this morning, police were called to reports of a road traffic collision on Langley Lane, near Burnhope.

'A black Peugeot had left the road and collided with a tree, while a number of other vehicles sustained minor damage following the crash.

'The driver of the Peugeot, a local man in his 80s, suffered a suspected fractured arm and was taken to the University Hospital of North Durham for treatment.

'One lane of the carriageway was closed by the accident but reopened shortly before 10am when the vehicle was recovered.
