Elderly man's body found 'mummified' as tributes paid to 'extremely private' person

A man's body was found mummified by police after worried neighbours reported their concerns to officers.

The body of John Arthur Noble was discovered at his home on April 12 when cops followed up on concerns and visited his property.

The 75-year-old was described by neighbours as an "extremely private" person as they expressed their sadness at the tragic news.

Earlier today an inquest was opened into the pensioners death, reports Yorkshire Live.

After gaining entry to the property, officers found the 75-year-old's badly decomposed body on the living room floor, the inquest was told.

Coroner's officer Catherine Toner told the hearing that Mr Noble's body was found in a "state of mummification".

She added paramedics attended the scene and certified death.

Residents on Golcar Brow Road described Mr Noble as "private to the 'nth' degree".

Lewis, who did not wish to disclose his surname, has lived on the street for 20 years.

He said: "I never saw him and I did not know him well. All I ever saw was his right hand as he came out to pay people (for deliveries).

"He was private - to the 'nth' degree in actual fact. I would not have recognised him if he came and knocked on my door."

One resident, who did not wish to be named, said: "There were concerns about him. All the neighbours were concerned about him but he just would not allow us to help him.

"He did not want anyone to bother him and he did not want to bother anyone else. We are sad about it, all of us."

The inquest into Mr Noble's death has been adjourned until August 12.
