Elderly man left fighting for his life after being hit by car in Bolton

An elderly man has been left fighting for his life after being hit by a vehicle in Bolton.

Emergency services were called to the scene of the collision in St George's Road at 7.45pm on Thursday.

The pensioner - thought to be in his 80s - was taken to hospital with a potentially life-threatening head injury.

As a result of the incident, St George's Road was closed at the junction with Marsden Road.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said: "At around 7.45pm on Thursday 26 September 2019, police were called to reports of a collision between a pedestrian and vehicle.

"The pedestrian, who is believed to be in his 80s, was taken to hospital with potentially life threatening injuries."

A spokesperson for the North West Ambulance Service added: "We were called at 7.26pm to St George's Road in Bolton.

"We sent a rapid response vehicle and an ambulance and took a male in his 80s to hospital.

"It looks like he has suffered a head injury."

Transport for Greater Manchester warned drivers of the closure in a tweet last night.

It read: "St Georges Road, Bolton is closed at the junction with Marsden Road due to a police incident.

"Please find an alternative route."
