
An elderly man has been killed after being hit by a lorry in north London.
The pedestrian, named locally as Mehmet Suleyman was struck by the vehicle after leaving the Rochester Castle pub on Stoke Newington High Street shortly after 2.30pm on Wednesday.
The 72-year-old was treated at the scene but later died in hospital.
The driver stopped at the scene and is assisting police with the investigation. No arrests have been made.
Mr Suleyman’s family told the Hackney Gazette that Mehmet was a local at the pub and would visit there often.
A picture of the victim and flowers have been left at the scene.
A Met Police spokesperson said: “On Wednesday, 14 May at 14:37hrs, police were called to reports of a collision involving a pedestrian and a vehicle on Stoke Newington High Street, N16.
“Officers attended alongside the London Ambulance Service who treated a 72-year-old man at the scene. He was then transported to hospital where he later died. His next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers.
“The driver stopped at the scene and is assisting police with the investigation.
“No arrests have been made at this stage.”
An investigation is underway and anyone with information is asked to call 101 referencing CAD 4668/14MAY25.
