Elderly man hit by car and taken to hospital after East Boldon collision

An elderly man who was hit by a car in East Boldon has been taken to his hospital.

Emergency services were called to Aviemore Road in the South Tyneside village just before 7.30am on Monday.

The 84-year-old man had injured his ankle in the collision and was taken to hospital for treatment.

A number of police cars were seen in the area following the crash.

A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: “Shortly before 7.25am on Monday we received a report of a collision involving a pedestrian and a car at the junction of Western Terrace and Aviemore Road, East Boldon.

“Officers attended the scene and an 84-year-old man was taken to hospital with a suspected broken ankle.

“The driver of the vehicle is not believed to have sustained any injuries.”
