Elderly man found dead following fire at his home in Oldham

An elderly man has died following a fire at his home in Oldham.

Fire crews were called to a property on Pearl Mill Close, in the Glodwick area, at around 7.45am on Thursday.

The pensioner, who is believed to be in his 70s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

A spokesman for GMP said a joint investigation was underway with Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue, however the fire was not being treated as suspicious.

They said: "We were called just after 7.45am to Pearl Mill Close following reports of a fire.

"A man believed to be in his 70 was pronounced dead at the scene.

"The incident is not being treated as suspicious.

"A joint investigation is now underway with Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service."

GMFRS added: "We sent three engines from Oldham and Chadderton to the scene.

"The fire was on the ground floor.

"Crews were in attendance for around four hours 45 minutes."
