Elderly man crossing street with walking frame dies in hit-and-run

AN ELDERLY man who was injured in a hit-and-run incident with a motorcycle has died in hospital.

The 81-year-old was crossing Bathgate Road in Blackburn, West Lothian, while using a walking frame when he was hit by a motorbike at around 7.15pm on Friday.

He was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary but Police Scotland confirmed on Tuesday that he had died.

Officers have said they are following a positive line of inquiry as they try to trace the motorcyclist, who left their bike and fled the scene.

Sergeant Jen Niven, from the force’s road policing unit, said: “Our thoughts are with the man’s family and friends at this difficult time.

“We are following a positive line of inquiry and would urge anyone with information who has not yet spoken to police to please come forward.”
