Elderly man dies more than a week after being struck by car in East Lothian

An elderly man has died more than a week after he was struck by a car while crossing a road in East Lothian.

William Knox was rushed to hospital after he was hit by a black Honda Civic on Dovecot Park in Pencaitland on Thursday, January 9.

The 86-year-old was treated at Edinburgh Royal Infirmary but died as a result of his injuries.

East Lothian Police confirmed the news of the pensioner's death on Thursday evening.

Officers are now appealing for more information on the crash as they continue with their enquiries into the incident.

Sergeant John Easton, of the Livingston Road Policing Unit, said: “Although this happened early in the morning, we know from CCTV that there was a white van in the area just around the time of the crash.

"It was not involved in the incident but the driver may have seen something or have dash-cam footage that may help our investigation."

A spokesperson for Police Scotland added: “Any information can be passed to officers via 101. Please quote reference number 0418 of the January 9, 2020 when calling.”
