Elderly man dies in Salford after collapsing on canal towpath

A pensioner has died after collapsing on a canal towpath in Salford.

Police and paramedics were called to Monton Road in Eccles just after 4pm yesterday (Wednesday).

A man - aged in his 80s - had collapsed on the pathway next to the canal, police said.

He was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

His family have been informed.

There are no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death.

In a statement, a spokesperson for GMP said: "Police were called to Monton Road, Eccles, at about 4.15pm on Wednesday 7 April 2021 to reports a man had collapsed on the canal towpath.

"A man in his 80s sadly died at the scene and his relatives have been informed.

"NWAS also attended.

"There are no suspicious circumstances."
