An elderly man has died alone in hospital as police search for his son and daughter.
Derek Kewley was admitted to Whiston Hospital before he died there on Saturday, August 29.
The 81-year-old, who is from the Whiston area, was alone at the time of his death sparking a next of kin appeal by Merseyside Police.
On behalf of Merseyside Coroner's Officer, officers issued a statement asking for anyone who knew Mr Kewley to come forward.
They also stated that he may have had a daughter and a son that they would like to speak to if they see the appeal.
Police say it is believed Mr Kewley was estranged from his children but officers need to speak to his next of kin as soon as possible.
Mr Kewley's death is not being treated as suspicious.
A spokesperson for Merseyside Police said: "Can you help? Merseyside Coroner's Office is looking to trace the next of kin of a Whiston man who recently passed away.
"Derek Kewley, 81, sadly died at Whiston Hospital on Saturday 29 August.
"His death is not being treated as suspicious.
"Mr Kewley may have a daughter and son, from whom he was estranged."
