Elderly man charged over Melbourne murder

The body of a 48-year-old woman was found at a Melbourne property on Thursday. (AAP)

A 76-year-old Melbourne man has been charged with murder over the death of a woman at St Albans.

The body of a 48-year-old woman was found at a property on Andrea Street about 7.20pm on Thursday.

The man handed himself in to police a short time later and has been charged with murder.

It's believed the pair knew each other.

The man is expected to appear in Melbourne Magistrates Court on Friday night.
