Elderly man burgled after thug 'with gun' calls to house in Drumcondra, North Dublin

An elderly man the victim of an alleged gunpoint burglary after a thug knocked on his door in North Dublin.

A manhunt is underway after the incident which happened in Drumcondra at around 8.00am today.

The victim was not hurt but was left very shaken following the incident.

It's understood a van pulled up by victim's house before one of the vehicle's occupants knocked on his door.

After answering the man, who allegedly had a firearm, entered the owner's house before taking a number of items including his car.

The car was recovered three doors down after the team abandoned it almost instantly after taking.

Gardai responded quickly while a spokesperson confirmed a number of items were taken and a full investigation is underway.

She said: "Gardaí are investigating a burglary which occurred in Dublin 9 on the 24th December 2019 at approximately 8:00am.

"Its alleged a male entered a home with a firearm however it’s not confirmed at this time.

"A number of items were taken from the property. No injuries reported. No arrests have been made."
