Elderly lady victim of vile con trick by two women

An elderly lady fell victim to a vile contrick by two callous women. The pensioner was at Warrington Interchange when the pair struck, and within minutes they had withdrawn £1,900 from her bank.

The victim was targeted last week, and police have today issued a warning. In a statement Cheshire Constabulary said: "On Tuesday 11 April, officers were made aware of an incident involving an elderly woman who had her bank cards stolen.

"The woman was at Warrington Interchange when she was approached by two women who insisted that she had dropped a £10 note earlier and they were trying to return it. While the victim was checking, one of the offenders pushed a £10 note into her purse, with the other interjecting and distracting the victim.

"Whilst distracted, cash and cards are stolen from the victim’s purse. The two women then proceeded to withdraw a quantity of cash from the victims bank.

PC Graham Davies of Warrington Local Policing Unit said: “Thankfully, on this occasion the woman has received a full refund for the money that has stolen, but this may not always be the case. While this investigation continues, we’re urging residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity.

“We would strongly advise anyone that if you are approached, or feel something is suspicious, immediately phone the police on 101 to report the incident.” Information can also be given anonymously by contacting Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
