Elderly Glasgow staffie needs new home after more than two years in rescue centre

Casper the Staffie is hoping his 11th birthday is the best one yet.

This old boy has spent more than 1,000 days in the care of Dogs Trust Glasgow, and though he's been made to feel most welcome, he's desperate to find his forever home.

Celebrating his milestone at the rehoming centre recently, Casper got lots of toys to play with and was even treated to a special dog-friendly cake by his canine carer Kirsty.

But his best present would be a family to call his own.

Sandra Lawton, rehoming centre manager at Dogs Trust Glasgow, said: "We like to make a fuss over dog’s birthdays, especially those like Casper, who have been with us a bit longer. All our canine residents deserve to feel loved and nothing provides this more than spending time with your favourite people, enjoying some delicious home baking.

“We’ve all got our fingers, and in Casper’s case paws, crossed that this is his lucky year and this his new retirement home is just around the corner.”

When it comes to his new family, Casper needs a calm space, with adults and owners who have previous experience of caring for rescue dogs.

He needs help to build his confidence through positive reinforcement and training, he's independent and would rather spend time playing and walking with his favourite people, than cuddles and belly rubs.

The Staffordshire Bull Terrier shared his cake -  made from flour, low sugar apple sauce, fresh grated apple, banana, baking powder, yoghurt and peanut butter -  with his pooch pals at the centre.

And though he wasn’t given candles to blow out, he and his canine carers definitely made a wish that he would find him a suitable new home soon.

Casper would love nothing more than to celebrate his 12 birthday in the comfort of a new home, so if you think you can you give him this and make his dreams come true, please get in touch with the team on 0141 465 0839 or visit  www.dogstrust.org.uk/our-centres/glasgow .
