Elderly couple seriously injured in crash near Bristol's Harbourside

An elderly couple have been seriously injured in a crash with a car on a busy road near Bristol’s Harbourside.

A blue Nissan Almera came off Hotwell Road, injuring the pedestrians, a man and woman, then hitting a traffic light just before 1pm this afternoon (Sunday).

The pedestrians, a man and a woman, both elderly, were taken to hospital via ambulance.

The driver of the Nissan was also taken to hospital but his injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

Part of Hotwell Road, Rownham Mead and Merchants Road have been closed for more than five hours while collision investigators examined the scene.

As of 6pm on Sunday evening the road is still closed to vehicles travelling out of Bristol.

Firefighters, police and paramedics were called to the incident.

Police are keen to hear from anyone who saw the manner of driving of the blue Nissan Almera leading up to the collision.

Anyone with any information about the collision should contact police on 101, quoting reference 476 of Sunday, April 7.
