Elderly couple's 'trauma' after son's death and stolen car

An elderly couple had their car stolen just days before their son's death.

It was reported that a silver Ford Fiesta was stolen from Lynton Road in Southport on December 9 at around 7pm. Police state that the car is the only mode of transport for a couple in their 80s, one of whom is terminally ill, and the car also contains their medication.

Merseyside Police also confirmed the son of the elderly man died just days after the car was stolen, on December 11. An appeal to trace the car has been launched, as well as CCTV enquiries.

A statement from police said: "The Ford Fiesta is the only transport of an elderly couple in their 80’s, one of whom is terminally ill. Medication to treat the condition was in the car when it was stolen. In addition, we have today learned that the son of the elderly male victim of this car theft died earlier today, Sunday 11.

"The theft of a car for anyone at any time can have a huge impact. For this family, at this time, the impact could be devastating.

"We are therefore appealing to anyone who has information on the whereabouts of this car, a silver Ford Fiesta Titanium tell us where it is and we will recover it and get it back to this family in an attempt to reduce the trauma they are currently going through.

"If you have information on where this car can be found, do the right thing. You can call us on 101 or report on Facebook using the MERSEYSIDE POLICE CONTACT CENTRE page. Do not pass information on this page as it is not staffed 24/7.

"You can also report anonymously using Crimestoppers on 08000 555 111 or online at https://orlo.uk/53igE REFER TO CRIME REFERENCE NUMBER 22000908416"
