'Elderly couple rescued' from house blaze in Seaforth

Neighbours reportedly ran into a house to rescue an elderly couple after fire broke out at their home in Seaforth this morning.

Crews from Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service (MFRS) were alerted to the fire in Claremont Road at around 7.40am today (Saturday). Four fire engines arrived at the scene shortly afterwards.

The ECHO understands neighbours ran into the house to help the couple.

This morning fire crews remained at the scene of the blaze, which left an area of roof space badly damaged.

A spokesperson for MFRS said: "Two persons were removed from the property and conveyed into the care of North West Ambulance Service with slight smoke inhalation.

"All persons were accounted for at the property, firefighters then used one hose reel jet under rapid deployment.

"Multiple cylinders were involved and one main branch was used to cool the cylinders. Crews also utilised two high pressure hose reels while two firefighters in breathing apparatus tackled fire in the roof space.

"Crews continued to monitor the temperatures of the cylinders involved. While hot spotting and further investigation took place to check for fire spread.

"This incident was then scaled down to one fire engine and our crews liaised with the appropriate utility companies to isolate gas and electricity to the property while monitoring temperature levels at scene, these remained at an acceptable and constant level.

"Our crews left the scene shortly after at 12.03pm."
