Elderly couple found dead at Scots home named locally as deaths 'not suspicious'

An elderly couple found dead in their home have been named locally.

Linda Hughes, 81, and William Derbyshire, 77, were found at a property in Kippford, Dumfries and Galloway. The couple were discovered at their home in the village, which is three miles from the town of Dalbeattie, on Wednesday.

Officers found the pair after being called to a property in the village's Merse Way on Wednesday afternoon.

They were pronounced dead at the scene and officers initially said their deaths were being treated as "unexplained" and that an investigation was underway to establish exactly what had happened. The force has now said that the deaths are not suspicious and that a report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal, as with all sudden deaths.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 4.20pm on Wednesday, 25 January, police were called to an address in Merse Way, Kippford, near Dalbeattie where a 77-year-old man and an 81-year-old woman were found dead within.

“Their deaths are not being treated as suspicious and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal."
